Dear Parent,
Happy 2009! I hope you all enjoyed a nice holiday break with your child(ren.) I know we had a wonderful time playing games, watching movies, shopping, and trying out our Wii Fit that I got as a gift. Our most interesting gift was a guinea pig that my in-laws gave my youngest daughter. (They asked our blessing before it happened!) We also got to celebrate my youngest daughter’s birthday over the weekend. I know the hardest part for me after a break is getting back to a normal sleeping schedule. I tend to stay up later than I should during break, but it won’t take long to get back in the swing of things. This newsletter will be shorter than usual since we had a crazy week our last week before break.

Snack
We will continue to have snack even though our rest time has ended. Thanks for providing a wonderful variety of healthy snacks!

D.I.R.T.
Today was our first session of D.I.R.T. which stands for Daily Individual Reading Time. I have a selection of books at various reading levels which your child will practice reading each day. If he/she thinks they can read a book, they will put a name card in it and read it to me before bringing it home in a labeled bag to share with you. Your child might bring home one book every day or it may be a few days in between. If a book comes home, this is homework and needs to be read and returned the next day. The students will also get a reading buddy after they get used to how D.I.R.T. works.

Last week before break
The easiest way to sum up our final week before break is program practice and finishing parent gifts. I hope you all enjoyed the items that your child made for you. They especially loved making the snowman soup! We didn’t get to our test in reading due to the delays and everything else we had to do. Therefore, we will do a little review and hopefully take our test this week.
